Process Paper...
Why I chose this topic.
During the summer, I watched a movie called “The Last Samurai” for my school summer work. The movie was based on the Satsuma Rebellion. After I watched it I became interested about the history of Japan and I wanted to find out more. When the History Fair came along I decided that I would do my project on the Satsuma rebellion.
How I conducted my research.
First I went on the internet at home and researched my topic. I looked up the historical background of Japan during the time period of the rebellion. I found several reliable websites and used the information from those sites as my secondary sources. Next, I found some online books on my topic. I read passages that were focused on my topic and used those as my primary sources. I listed events in chronological order and left footnote definitions for words I did not understand. I also went on ‘Google Images’ and found pictures that related to my topic.
How I created and developed my exhibit.
First I developed my thesis statement. Then I introduced the leader of the rebellion. After that I provided some background information on the samurai and the armor that they wore. Next, I stated the cause of the rebellion and the reaction of the Japanese government. Afterwards I stated the negative impacts that the samurai faced because of Japan’s modernization. I listed the number of men each side had and the weapons used. I put all this information on my website and added an annotated bibliography. Lastly, I published my site so that it would be easily accessible.
How my project relates to the theme.
My project relates to the theme because it tells of the revolution that spread throughout the Japanese samurai. It also shows the reactions of the samurai during the modernization and the reaction of the Japanese government. And, lastly I explained how the reforms changed the future of Japan.
